The New Yorker Offers Free Download of Who Is Mark Twain read by John Lithgow

Lithgow reads TwainWe actually have a word for our Twain-mania here at HarperStudio: Twainia. But seriously, if you think our blog has become too promotional, tell us and we’ll knock it off. In the mean time, we are excited to share the free download of John Lithgow reading WHO IS MARK TWAIN? My favorite audio track is “The Snow-Shovelers” in which Twain describes two African American men conversing about Anarchy and Socialism. The piece is written in heavy dialect and Lithgow’s recording is phenomenal.

I bet it sounds great, but when I downloaded it the MP3 files do not work.

I just had a chance to look at the book, and I must say in all honesty I was very disappointed.

First, the book is double-spaced, thus readers are asked to pay 20 bucks retail for what is in essence a 100 page book. Second, there is nothing compelling about the selections. In sum, the book is a ripoff and Bob should be ashamed of himself.

Yes–I think it is too promotional.

I’m sure you’re all excited about the release, but like others who might follow your blog, I have known about your Twain book for months now. The book has its own website. I follow this blog, not that. Maybe there is something else going on in the world of publishing?

    Sorry, but since you asked….
