I would like more info. I think you should set up a trial in our store. We are in a rural area and are the only Christian book store for at least 30-45 minutes around us. We are small and couldn't afford to invest in a lot til we knew if it would actually sell here. Intriguing idea though. I have been trying for months to think of a way to incoporate a kindle into the store but since it can only be read on a kindle..........seemed pointless. Thanks. Jill

Looking at the Symtio site, it appears that most books have an audio version available, some (50%? More? Less? Couldn't find any stats) also have ebook versions available, and a few have only the ebook version. So the potential is there for multiple formats, but it's relatively limited now.

Just the ebook (though in ALL formats). The audio would be separate, unless the publisher decides to bundle together.

So just to clarify, does a symtio purchase mean the consumer owns both the ebook and audio versions, or is it only one or the other? If it includes both, then it seems like a perfect way to go.

@ Derek Good point. And I've asked myself that a million times. But that presumes that you have an iphone (or touch) or a Kindle. You can't read from those two places on your desktop, or other smart phone, or Sony e-reader, etc. If you download from Symtio you will be able to read it any place you want.

Wouldn't it be easier for people to download their digital content from Amazon or iTunes? That way they'd save themselves a trip to the store.

@ Wendy -- It's one card, all formats. Tim came by the office yesterday and I asked the same thing. Apparently there's a "foot locker" that you get when you get a Symtio product, and all of your formats, etc. are kept in there. That way, if you ever lose a device, you can still get back your ebook (or audio download) because it's always in your own, personal Symtio footlocker. Make sense? If not, I'll get Tim to explain better!

Very interesting. Thanks for the post - I've been curious about this since Wi4. Does the same card purchase allow the consumer to choose the format--i.e. audio or ebook--or are there separate cards for each? Seems like it would be preferable to have one card that lets the user choose but that might be harder to track at the POS.

Love the way this keeps a physical component for gift-giving, and it's a nice way to keep bricks and mortar stores in the loop without requiring us to invest in a kiosk-style solution.

Can't wait to follow the evolution!
