Hi Mike -
Just because we’re interested in publishing authors who are willing to take less up front and share in the profits instead doesn’t mean that all authors will choose this route. I’m excited about our model, but I’m not delusional; it wouldn’t be reasonable to expect every author to suddenly go with us instead of taking such large advances. For that matter, sometimes the books with the largest advances are the most successful. This isn’t a science, and one size doesn’t fit all…

I would like someone to comment about the two book deals that have made headlines recently. The pilot of the plane that landed in the Hudson just got a 3 million book deal and a fiction author just got a 5 million dollar advance for her second book.

I know that you want to change the book biz by giving authors a greater share of profits and capping advances at 100,000, but what do the two recent deals says about the current state of the book biz? What does it say about the current mindset among publishers? How can you hope to create change when publishers don't seem to want to change?

Thanks,
