I think what everyone is forgetting about in this web friendly age, is good old foot-work for marketing a book. Since the publishing biz seems to be melting, authors must step up to the plate and work smarter. If you're an author and can go out in public with bed head and sweat stained t-shirts knowing no one will recognize you, you've failed.
What's glorious about everything that is happening these days is that hard times are forcing people to rethink, re-market, and grow.
I love it.
My motto these days: Charles Darwin It, Baby.
Adapt or Die.

Except for known authors, the e-book cover can still play a factor in selecting the book. Sure, if you're buying Barack Obama's book in a Kindle version, then you don't care about the cover.

But lesser known e-book authors are at a marketing disadvantage right now over titles in bookstores since browsing an online bookstore is still a rather clunky experience. What's up with that?

We're sure to see some savvy publisher or entrepreneurs develop e-book portals that are highly visual and engaging. Covers can play a role in marketing those lesser known authors.

I do totally agree about the split in that print books will increasingly present an even better aesthetic experience.
