Best Books of 2008

Stack_of_books Even though I don't always agree with the "Best Books of the Year" articles that start appearing each December, I love to see which books make the cut. This year, I noticed that a lot of the round-ups feature the same titles. So I decided to survey a few publications to see which 2008 books received the most "endorsements." Here's a list of books that were featured at least three times and the round-ups they were a part of:

The "Best Of" Books:

  • 2666: a favorite of the New York Times, New York magazine, Time magazine, the Village Voice, and the Washington Post
  • A Mercy: a favorite of the New York Times, the Village Voice, and the Washington Post
  • The Forever War: a favorite of the New York Times, Time magazine, and the Village Voice
  • Lush Life: a favorite of New York magazine, USA Today, and the Village Voice
  • Netherland: a favorite of the New York Times, the New Yorker, and the Village Voice
  • Unaccustomed Earth: a favorite of the New York Times, Time magazine, and the Village Voice
  • The World is What it is: a favorite of the New York Times, New York magazine, the New Yorker, Time magazine, and USA Today

The Round-Ups:

Your Forever War link goes to a different book than the one listed in the best of 2008 lists. The link goes to a pretty good SF book from the 70s, not the book published last year.
