<description>That&#039;s the problem with today&#039;s publishing company. They want a sure thing, so they don&#039;t take leaps of faith.

Shamefully, many stories that should be shared with the world are not.

<description>Read and enjoyed the blog, and have added it to my favorites. You have a very smart
list, lots to interest an Indy/scholarly/alt/ store like ours. I hope the low advance serves
to bring in new authors, and some books that are a little outside the mainstream.

Googling around, and reading about the no return policy. Kind of scary. When ordering
for events I always push the buyer to up the order--there&#039;s psychological advantage to
having a big stack at a reading. Returns are a nice cushion. Also, it&#039;s tough to buy
new authors without a net. I&#039;m not an expert here--along with the events I do used and
small press buying (mostly one or two titles at a time), but it seems like a gamble.

Also, are you mostly promoting online? Not exactly music to the events person&#039;s
ears. I&#039;d like to host Maltin (perhaps with a tie-in with the Pacific Film Archive on campus),
Emeril (of course), and if you could put me in touch with Mark Twain...

Anyway, a fun &amp; though provoking blog. Good luck with it.
